Crochet Chocolate Chip Cookie (Free Pattern)

This design was originally created for one of my very first art shows, making it a special and playful piece that's been with me since the beginning.

Pattern
Cookie (Make 2)
Notes:
Cookie is worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.
Stitch count for each round is shown in parentheses at the end of the round.
Round 1: 6 sc in a magic ring. (6)
Alternative Start: Ch 2, work 6 sc in second ch from hook. (6) This method may leave a larger opening in the center, which can be covered with a chocolate chip if desired.
Round 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12)
Round 3: *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around (18)
Round 4: Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around, sc in last st (24)
Round 5: *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around (30)
Round 6: Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st, *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around, sc in last 2 sts (36)
Round 7: *sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st; repeat from * around (42) Invisible fasten off as follows;
- Invisible Fasten off:
On the first piece, leave a long yarn tail (approximately 30 inches) for sewing. On the second piece, leave a shorter tail (approximately 4 inches).

- After last sc of final round is worked leave your hook in the stitch, cut yarn from skein to desired length. Draw the loop that's on your hook up until the yarn tail comes out of the middle of the stitch.
- Thread yarn tail into a tapestry needle. Skip the next stitch and insert the needle under both loops of the following stitch from front to back.
- Return to the last stitch worked before fastening off and insert the needle under the back loop only from front to back. Remove the needle to complete the invisible fasten off.
Join & Finish
- Weave in the shorter yarn tail on the wrong side of the plain cookie piece before joining.
- Place the cookie pieces wrong sides together with the embroidered chocolate chip piece on top.
- Using the long yarn tail and tapestry needle, whip stitch through both layers around the outer edge of the cookie, making sure the stitches line up evenly, to join the pieces together.
- Once the cookie is fully joined, bring the yarn tail to the back of the cookie. Using the tapestry needle, catch a small strand of yarn near the edge and make 2-3 knots to secure.
- Insert the needle back into the cookie directly next to the knots, passing the needle in-between the layers and bringing it out on the opposite side of the cookie edge. Pull gently to hide the knots inside the cookie, then trim the excess yarn.
Embroider Chocolate Chips
Using brown yarn and a tapestry needle, embroider chocolate chips onto the cookie. To help hide the yarn, insert the needle into the center of the cookie between stitches each time.
To create each chocolate chip, stitch around 1-2 sts 2-3 times to create texture and depth. Repeat as desired, spacing the chocolate chips randomly around the cookie.
Adjusting Cookie Sizes
To make smaller cookies, stop at any round before Round 7. Continue following the finishing instructions after completing your desired round.
