Joining Squares

Join the next three squares as follows:

  • Work Round 4 as written until one side is complete and you reach corner
  • In the ch-2 corner space, work 3 hdc. Do not ch 2.
    • With both squares right side up, insert hook into any ch-2 corner space of finished square and sl st, ch 1 to join.
    • In the current square, work 3 hdc in same ch-2 corner space.
  • Insert hook into the corresponding space of the finished square and sl st to join.
  • Continue working 3 hdc in each space and joining with a sl st in the corresponding space of the finished square.
  • When you reach the next corner, work 3 hdc, sl st into the corner space of finished square, ch 1.
  • Continue working the remainder of Round 4 as written.
  • Repeat for the next 2 squares

Joining Final Square

The final square is joined slightly differently to complete the hat:

  • Work one side and join side as in Joining Squares.
  • Continue working the next side of final square as written in Round 4.
  • When you reach the next corner, work 3 hdc. Do not ch 2.
    • Fold the piece so the final square aligns with the first square.
    • With both squares right side up, insert hook into the corner space of the first square and sl st, ch 1 to join.
  • Continue working 3 hdc in each space, joining to the corresponding spaces of the first square with a sl st.
  • When you reach the final corner, work 3 hdc, sl st into the corner space of the first square to complete the join. Ch 1, sl st to top of beginning ch-1. Fasten off.
